The UK Awards Season 2020 is upon us and Allspan is busy preparing its temporary structure and covered walkway hire contracts for London award ceremonies.
Every VIP event worth its salt rolls out the red carpet to welcome its guests and no-one wants to step upon a soggy wet carpet! This is where we come in, Allspan have provided temporary structure and covered walkway hire for London award ceremonies since we started back in 1996.
For many consecutive years, we have been privileged to provide the walkway structures for The BRIT Awards VIP red carpet entrance at the O2 Arena in London. We are also an established temporary structure supplier for a number of other London venues where awards ceremonies take place during the busy UK awards season.
Awards Across All Sectors
The UK awards season peaks in January, February and March, then returns in September, October and November.
When we talk about the UK awards season, its important to understand that it is not just about celebrating the film, TV and music industries. In truth, every industry is preparing to celebrate the best of the best. From education, transport and healthcare, to corporate organisations from the world of finance, marketing, events, IT, retail and construction. Businesses and organisations across the UK are battling it out to become award winners within their preferred categories and are taking inspiration from high profile awards ceremonies throughout the UK.
Today’s industry awards are typically hosted in a prestigious venue by a comedian or VIP keynote speaker, who often has to study an eclectic array of industries to entertain and inspire those that await the results of their award category.
Prestigious Awards Ceremony Venues London
London is the award ceremony capital of the UK. It’s central location for many industries means that come January, London’s finest venues are fully booked to host hundreds of guests. Some of the most prestigious awards venues in London include:

The UK Awards Season 2020
To mark the start of the UK awards season 2020 let’s take a look at award ceremonies in London and across the pond that set the benchmark for award ceremonies everywhere.
The UK awards season 2020 kicks off with The National Television Awards on Tuesday 28 January. Held at the O2 Arena, the NTAs are dubbed ‘Television’s Biggest Night of the Year.’ It certainly is a star-studded event, celebrating the UKs most watched shows – from reality TV to soaps and daytime television. This year, the NTAs celebrate its 25th anniversary. While the red carpet is rolled out for the stars of TV, up to now they are reliant on umbrellas as they are greeted by fans. It’s inside the O2 Arena, where the press get their photo opportunity. Will they be providing a cover walkway this year? We’ll soon find out.
Next on the UK calendar of prestigious award ceremonies is the BAFTAs. On Sunday 2 February 2020 the British film industry takes to the spotlight to celebrate the great talent. The who’s who of the worldwide cinema will grace the red carpet at 195 Piccadilly. Again the stars have been open to the elements in previous years, but we will watch this space to see what they do this year.
An award ceremony in London that really knows how to do the red carpet well is The BRIT Awards with Mastercard. On Tuesday 18 February 2020, The BRIT Awards will welcome the music industry’s hottest artists – newcomers and more established names will once again walk the red carpet at the O2 Arena in London.
This is a familiar event for the team at Allspan. For many consecutive years we have provided temporary structures and covered walkways for the VIP Red Carpet Entrance and, more recently, the BRITS After Show Party in the Inter-Contiental Hotel at the O2.
Can you believe that 2020 marks the BRIT Awards’ 40th anniversary? The headlines that this spectacular music event has generated over the years have been sensational and really made their mark on the heritage of this iconic ceremony.
Think back to the 1990’s when the likes of Jarvis Cocker took to the stage to boycott Michael Jackson’s performance of the Earth Song, or when the Spice Girls’ Geri Halliwell donned that iconic union jack dress for the first time and who will ever forget Madonna’s fall from the stage during her performance in 2015!
While The BRIT Awards have presented many momentous occasions in music history over its 40 years, let’s not forget the awards themselves.
In 2020, it would seem that less is more when it comes to the categories; this year the organisers have limited the awards to just nine. The reason? To have more time for live performances from the best of British and global artists.
Could this spur a trend for less categories and more entertainment across all industry awards ceremonies?
Global Award Ceremonies 2020
Across the pond, the biggest of biggest awards ceremony will take place on Sunday 9 February. Yes, it’s the Oscars. If any award ceremonies know how to do the red carpet, it’s the Oscars!
This event is so spectacular that it doesn’t even require a dedicated host anymore!
Last year, Kevin Hart was set to host the awards ceremony but pulled out at the last moment over controversy surrounding his tweets. Fortunately, presenter Tina Fey, Maya Rudolph and Amy Poehler, Helen Mirren, Samuel L. Jackson, Emilia Clarke and Constance Wu successfully filled the void.
According to BBC Entertainment News, Karey Burke, from Oscars broadcaster ABC, confirmed earlier this month, “there will be no traditional host (again) this year” as ABC had been “extremely happy” with how the ceremony had gone on 24 February 2019.
“Odds are you’ll see us repeating what we consider to be a successful formula,” she said during a press event in Pasadena, California.
The Oscars revealed the shortlist for nine of its categories, as reported online by The Hollywood Reporter, ET Online and a host of other media outlets. Others are keen to air their predictions for the most successful nominations. GQ Magazine and Vogue both expect Rocketman, Little Women, JoJo Rabbit, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Marriage Story, Hustler and Joker to be the major players at this year’s Oscars.
As we wait with much anticipation for the list of Oscar nominees, let’s take a closer look at how the Oscars and The BRIT Awards successfully implement the red-carpet walkways for their guest’s arrival.
The Importance of Temporary Structure Covered Walkway Hire for Award Ceremonies
First of all, we must establish that covered walkways and temporary structures for award ceremonies are a must.
Like the Oscars, there are high profile UK award ceremonies, such as The BRIT Awards, The BAFTAS, Sports Personality of the Year and The British Soap Awards that attract media attention and public interest.
For such events, a red carpet covered walkway or temporary structure are a necessity. Not only do these temporary event structures offer protection from the outdoor elements, but they also provide:
Covered Walkway Hire London
Allspan has provided covered walkway hire for a broad range of London awards ceremonies for many years. Our temporary structures are impeccably maintained to look the part at a high-profile award ceremony or event.
We work closely with our clients to ensure their temporary structure hire meets their needs from both a practical and aesthetics perspective. Each walkway structure is designed to fit within the available space and provide cover from the car to the venue. We can also provide, lighting and flooring as part of your bespoke hire package.
Temporary Structure Hire London
Our temporary structures and covered walkways can be installed to start from a car park or curb-side drop-off point and extend to the venue itself. To us, it is important that guests can confidently exit the car in privacy and walk the remaining distance under cover.
Press and Guest Tents
For award ceremonies where media and special guests meet and greet the stars as they arrive, Allspan can provide a larger temporary structure to accommodate this.
Temporary structures are an essential asset to the overall red-carpet experience. They provide substantial space for press to interview, film and photograph the VIP guests as they arrive.
Security at high profile events and awards means that bags and equipment need to be checked before anyone can enter the venue. To save taking up unnecessary space within the venue, Allspan can provide temporary structures as an extension to the permanent building.
Security tents can be provided as part of the temporary structure and walkway hire package for the UK awards season 2020.
