The recent Blue Whale installation at the Natural History Museum in London received global media attention. The 126 year old Blue Whale Skeleton measures an incredible 25.2 metres long and weighs 4.5 tonnes. It replaces the Diplodocus Dinosaur on display in the main entrance hall at the Natural History Museum.
To mark this momentous occasion, the iconic London museum hosted a special launch event, attended by none other than Kate Middleton, who spoke of her children’s love of nature and dinosaurs.
Joining the Duchess of Cambridge was wildlife royalty himself, Sir David Attenborough, who had narrated a special documentary about the Blue Whale. The documentary was aired on BBC Two simultaneously to the inauguration of this inspirational exhibit.
With so much media attention and the obvious presence of royalty, security had to be heightened. Having provided temporary structures for the historic venue in the past, it was fitting that Allspan were asked to provide a security structure for the VIP’s attending the event.
Allspan installed a 9m wide x 9m Frame Marquee with White PVC Roof and Wall Panels. Interior flat ivory roof and wall linings completed the interior. The marquee was positioned on a hard-standing surface, therefore, Allspan’s weighted anchorage system was used to eliminate the use of standard pinning.
Overall the event was a great success, and Allspan’s temporary structure proved to be the ideal security tent for this special launch event.
